Odu Covid-19 Project 2021

in the wake of the current devastation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and in recognition of the suffering the virus had caused to both rich and poor in society globally. The Oron development Union UK and Ireland branch under the leadership of Dr. Edeke decided to alleviate the pain and suffering of the needy citizens of Oron nation who were impacted adversely by the effect of the pandemic by providing some relief materials to the people. A five-member committee was set up to execute the project the members of the committee were Chief Patrick Nkereuwem, (Chairman) Mrs. Nkoyo Edeke, Ken Essien, Atim Blossom Otuodung, Atim Amana-Abrams. An Appeal Fund was launched and members made their contributions.

The major aim was to support the most deprived and vulnerable members of the community with a specific focus on widows/ widowers, disabled adults living alone and people living in thatched houses.

The project was executed between the 11th and 12th of May 2020, and the beneficiary LGA were Udung Uko, Oron,Mbo,Okobo,Urue Offong Oruko. Items shared were Rice, Garri, beans and indomie. Coordinators were chosen from each local government and the used their wealth of experience and knowledge of the grassroot communities and delivered the relief materials as directed.

Responding on behalf of the recipients representative from each local government of Oro nation took turns to appreciate the union for their timely intervention. The recipients were also seen taking some dancing steps to appreciate the Union, Many offered prayers of blessing to the Union too.

The president thanked the members of the committee, the coordinators, the village heads and those who supported in making the project a success. He stated that as an organisation, we are committed to doing more for the people of Oron.
