Covid-19 Relief Intervention for Oron Communities
In the wake of the devastation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and in recognition of the hardship experienced by both rich and poor across society, Oron Development Union UK and Ireland resolved to provide relief support to vulnerable citizens of the Oron Nation.
Under the leadership of Dr. Edeke, the union launched a relief intervention aimed at easing the pain and suffering of those most adversely affected by the pandemic through the distribution of essential food materials.
Project Overview
The project was designed to provide urgent support to the most vulnerable members of the community.
Primary Aim
To support the most deprived and vulnerable members of the Oron community, with a particular focus on widows, widowers, disabled adults living alone, and people living in thatched houses.
Project Period
The project was executed between the 11th and 12th of May 2020, during a period when many households were facing severe hardship due to the pandemic.
Approach
Relief materials were distributed through a coordinated community-based structure, ensuring that support reached those who needed it most.

Execution and Community Response
Grassroots coordination played a key role in ensuring the success of the project.
Coordinators were selected from each local government area and relied on their local knowledge and experience to identify and reach the intended beneficiaries effectively.
With the support of village heads and community coordinators, relief materials were distributed as planned, ensuring that the intervention was both organised and impactful at grassroots level.
Representatives from each local government area expressed appreciation for the union’s timely intervention. Beneficiaries were visibly grateful, with many offering prayers and words of blessing in appreciation of the support received.
